INTERESTS OF IMPORTERS
NEW ASSOCIATION FORMED ' , WELLINGTON ACTION TAKEN [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday As a result of recent meetings of representative business men, a Wellington Importers' Association has been successfully formed, the object being to deal with public matters, particularly those affecting the interests of importers, on broad national lines. Members of the council are Messrs. E. Salmond, A. L. Wall, C. J. B. Norwood, Hope Gibbons, C. Richardson, D. A. Ewen, J. Myers, W. F. Cuthbertson, D. G. McCaul, A. D. Kerr, G. S. Amos, W. Sim, L. Whitcombe, E. A. Batt, E. W. Ackland, 11. G. Buckleton, W. E. Jackson, H. Bateson. Mr. Salmond was elected president, Mr. Wall vice-president and Mr. T. Lisle secretary. Mr. Salmond emphasised that the association did not in any way desire to impair the strength of the Chamber of Commerce. The chamber included exporters, importers, manufacturers and other sections of the business community, each of which already had its own organisation to protect its particular interests, and it was now proposed to form a similar association to protect the interests of importers, while still co-operating with the Chamber of Commerce. Speakers urged the need for the association taking a broad-minded view on all matters and that the activities of the association should be made Dominionwide. It was considered that an effort' should be made to form a Dominion body, and it was decided that the association should communicate with interested parties and bodies in other centres, suggesting a conference for the purpose of forming a New Zealand Importers' Federation.
