FERRY TIME-TABLE

BIRKENHEAD AND NORTHCOTE FEWER PASSENGER TRIPS The proposed curtailment of the ferry trips in the Birkenhead and Northcote passenger service was explained yesterday by the management of the Devonport Ferry Company to representatives of the borough councils. It was pointed out that the falling-off in the number of passengers carried had necessitated eliminating some of the trips and readjusting the time-table. The curtailment was not drastic and meant that 30 trips would be run daily, instead of 34, the evening trips principally being affected. From Monday to Friday the proposed times of departure from Auckland, commencing as now at 6.45 a.m., provide for the next trip at 7.30, which is 15 minutes later than now, then 8.10, 8.40, 9.10, 9.40, 10.30, 11, noon; half-hourly from 1 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. and then at 5.10, 5.45 and 6.15 p.m. On Saturday, instead of 10.30 а.m., it is proposed that tho departure from Auckland will be at 10.45, then 11.15, 11.50 a.m., 12.20 p.m., 1.25, then half-hourly to 5 p.m.; then 5.45, 6.15, б.45, 8.10, 8.40, 9.10, 9.40, 10.30, 11 and midnight. The week-day evening trips would be similar to those proposed for Saturday. On Sunday the principal alteration is from 5.40 p.m., 6.20, 7, 8. 9, with 10 p.m. tho last boat, instead of 10.35 p.m. It was urged by the local body representatives that the present boat at 10 p.m. from Birkenhead and 10.35 from Auckland should be retained on Sunday, instead of 9.30 p.m. being tho last from Birkenhead, as suggested. Other adjustments proposed are to bo considered by the company before tho time-table is adopted.
