NORTH AUCKLAND EVIDENCES PRESBYTERY EXPRESSES ALARM [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday At the quarterly meeting of tho North 'Auckland Presbytery at Whangarei yesterday, a letter was received from the convener of the Presbyterian temperance committee regarding the necessity for keeping the matter of the prohibition ' issue before the congregations, and suggesting that a fighting fund should be established preparatory to tho next Rational prohibition election. It also asked lor an expression of opinion regarding tho ; fcse of "home brew" among tho various Communities. The Rev. R. C. Stewart, of Hikurangi, teicl in his district tho matter of "home hew" was serious, and constituted a rival .to thb licensed houses. It was one that *as causing him great concern, and ho feeling the effec's of its ramifications. ."?!:The moderator, the Rev. W. Elliott, the present was not the time to attempt to raise funds as suggested, as ®4ch church was feeling the strain of Je economic -depression, and it was very to maintain the various mission fends "ant other activities of the Church. viewed with alarm the increase in the home brew" among tho people, and it called for serious consideration. •A resolution was carried expressing 4 <arm at the increase in "home brew."
