OLD ENGLISH COINS
HALF-CROWN DATED 1745 The earliest English coin of the Georgian period to be reported so far by correspondents to tho HEitALr- is a King George 11. half-crown dated 1745. It is owned by Mr. A. R. Cant, of Baildon Road, Grey Lynn. The coin looks as good as new, in spite of having been minted nearly 200 years ago. It is possible to distinguish most of the letters of the inscription which takes the place of the modern, milling round the edge, Mr. J. A. Mundell, of Tatuanui, near Morririsville, is another possessor of a King George HI. spade, guinea of the latter part of the eighteenth century. He also lias a George IV. half-sovereign dated 1034.
