HOCKEY TOURISTS

NEW ZEALAND VICTORY ORANGE TEAM DEFEATED (Received August 3, 10.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 3 The New Zealand hockey team to-day met and defeated an Orange side by 9 goals to 1 in the presence of a, very large crowd of spectators. There were several changes in the New Zealand team to fill the vacancies due to the visitors feeling the effects of the strenuous tour. The New Zealand forwards were too tricky while the backs played a great game. Orange played well, but were outclassed. The pace was terrific and the players several times were exhausted. The scorers for New Zealand were:— Bay, 4; Anthony, 2; Best, 1; Reid 2. For Orange the scorer was Pulley. The match was played in a splendid spirit and there were no injuries. The record of the team to date is as follows: July 20, defeated Casino, s—o.5 —0. July 24, defeated Queensland, 4—l. July 25, defeated Ipswich, B—o.8 —0. July 27, defeated Toowoomba, 4—o. July 28, defeated Warwick, 13 —1. July 30, defeated Tenterfield. 14—I. August 1, drew with Metropolitan (Sydney). 4 —4. August 3, defeated Orange, 9—l.
