LAKE PUPUKE LEVEL THE COLLECTION OF RATES The level of Lake Pupuke is 25in. below mean high water mark, 13Jin. lower than at this time last year, according to a report presented at last evening's meeting of the Devonport Borough Council by the engineer, Mr. A. T. Griffiths. For the fortnight ended July 26, a total of 7,029,000 gallons bad been pumped at the Devonport station, 247,500 gallons more than for the corresponding period last year. -"The rates are coming in satisfactorily, considering present conditions," said the town clerk, Mr. A. E. Wilson. For tho four months ended July 31, £3698 of the general rate had been as against £3958 last year. The water rates were not coming in so freely, £2778 having been received. It was reported that work under the No. 5 unemployment relief scheme had been provided for 311 men for tho week ended July 23.
