VICTORIA LEAGUE
BOOK AFTERNOON A splendid collection of books and magazines, which will eventually bo sent to settlors in the backblocks, was received at the Victoria League rooms yesterday afternoon, when a book afternoon was held by the Ever-Ready Committee. Over 50 members and their friends attended the gathering, each of whom donated ono book or more as the price of admission, with the result that yesterday's collection surpassed all others. On arrival the guests were received by Miss Mowbray, president of the league, and by Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, chairman of tho Ever-Ready Committee, who later, in the absence of Miss Fenton, chairman o$ the book committee, thanked tho guests for their donations. Miss Mowbray also spoke, and referred to the daffodil fair to be held in tho league rooms in September. An advertisement competition was held during tho afternoon, Mrs. Runciman winning the first prize and Miss Burnett the second. Jibe hostesses wero Mrs. P. Skeates, Mrs. Preston Chambers, Mrs. R. Cruickshank, Mrs. Pearson, Mrs. W. M. Passmore, Mrs. Redmond, Mrs. McLachlan, Mrs. Dowell and Miss Kelly.
