EDWIN STARS CHANGE HANDS TOURNAMENT AT RAWHITI •* . | by skip. The West End team's tenure of - the Edwin Stars trophies came to an end on Saturday, when the challenging Carlton combination, in charge of Kilgour, had a fairly comfortable win. The. run of the play was closer than the scores indicated. It, was only on the last few heads that the winners gained a margin of points. The 19th head was West End's real undoing. After I. Clarke had sent the jack to t lie ditch from a good way down the green and left plenty of room for the subsequent shots, both ho and his skip failed to get near. Perry, the Carlton number Ihree got two in, as did Kilgour with two shots very close to the ditch The four points thus scored placed the game beyond doubt with two heads to g°Although Bates was lending in his best style. Cox, the West End leader, held to' his task well but he faded a little at the finish. Duncan completely over; shadowed McCarthy. Kilgour played a very fine game, while Perry was also in good form. Both Clarke and Ilardlev played their usual game, but the odds against them were too great. The next challenger is S. Sharp, Mt. Albert. The Rawhili Bowling Club's double tourney was advanced a stage further on Saturday, when two of the section winners met. Livingstone's Onehunga fourwon from Needham's West End rink after a good game to the lltli head, when the score was 1-1 -all. From this point on the Onehunga players were superior and won by a margin of seven points. The other two section winners, W. Hard ley, West End. and (iraham, Ilemuera, will meet on the Uawhiti green to-day iinrl the winner will meet Livingstone in the final on Sat unla w As well us first and second prizes, a special prize will be given to the team which has the least number of points scored against it during section play However, it cannot be determined who is the winner of this until the lourn'ey is finalised, as some of the section winners who will not gain first or second pliire will be in the running. The present holders of the Denison Pins had a very line game with the challenging Mount Eden team, in charge, of Vivian at the Epsom green on Saturday. Finland held a six-points advantage at the tea adjournment and increased the margin further as the game progressed. All the. players were in good form. The next challenger is C. E. Hard ley, West End, who has just lost the Edwin Stars. F. Coburn, the noted Whangnrei skip, who has been participating in the midweek tourneys with a fair amount of success won the final of the Grey Lynn mid-week tourney from the Ellerslie team, skipped by H. Hay. The Balmoral Club intends to hold a two-Saturday afternoon tournament on August 13 and 20.
