TRANSPORT SERVICES
Sir, —"Another Flat," in his letter, makes reference to people not minding j "how many services arc tearing lip and | down the roads." Well, he does in.t setm | to mind either, so long as we are proi hibited from using them. All these serI vices to which he refers are still running. There has been no curtailment of ears. It i is only our right to use them that has I been curtailed. Your correspondent's statement re the number of passengers carried on tlie morning trip from town is quite misleading. lie refers to a trip which left town lns;t summer at 10 a.m., returning from Silverdale at 2 p.m. It was a very poor service and landed people at Silverdalo with just about time to get dinner and catch the car back to town. It is a wonder anyone travelled by it at all. He makes no mention of tlio fact that other cars left town then at 8 a.m., 8.15 a.m. and 9 a.m., returning from Silveidale between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Naturally, all the passengers with anything to do travelled by them. Our case is that so long as the Transport Board allows all these cars to run "tearing up and down the roads," which we are heavily taxed to maintain, we should be allowed to use any of them. The position created by the board is ridiculous in the extreme. Ihere leaves tlio town daily the mail car at 8.15 a.m. and another car at 9 a.m. But the board prevents them from now carrying passengers to Dairy Flat and Silverdale. Feople wishing to travel to those places to inspect land, etc.. must not leave town before 4.30 p.m. 'lhat means that they have to be away from town for (wo nights to do a trip lhat was formerly done between breakfast time and tea time. And this is the Transport Board's idea of efficiency. Dairy Flat.
