TRADE WITH THE EAST
Sir, —Your report of the statement nmde by the Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Industries and Commerce, on the above subject was startling. To see that such a market lias been neglected causes ono to think." That Australia should send to Hongkong alone £340,000 worth of products in 1931, while we sent £14,000 worth only, sorely proves that New Zealanders should "get their heads read."' What is the use of the cry "back to the land, and produce, produce," if we neglect such potential markets. If it cost us a million (which it wouldn't), it would be a thousand times better than spending three and a-half millions on unemployment palliatives. I firmly believe that, properly organised, 100,000 patriotic New Zealanders could be found to pay an average of £lO oach to capture at least a share of the Eastern market. Enzeddeh.
