SMALLER FARMS
Sir, —There nre thousands of landowners holding land which is only producing half as much as it is capable of producing simply because the farmers havo not the capital to farm it right lip to its capacity. It would bo much better for these men if the Government took over all land which is only being half farmed and put more pcoplo on it. This would assist in two ways. The man holding more lnd athan he can farm would bo relieved of a big mortgage, and it would mean putting hundreds more on the land without the Government opening up one acre more until the land now held is made to produco all it is capable of producing. In other words, New Zealand will have to get down to more intensive ! cultivation and smaller farms where tho j land is good quality. B.M.
