POWER FOR WAIHI BEACH
DISPUTE BETWEEN BOARDS PAYING INTERMEDIARY'S COSTS [from orn own correspondent] TE AROHA, Tuesday The difference which has arisen between the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board and the Tauranga Power Board over the question of supply to the Waihi Beach was again a subject for discussion at the meeting of the Thames Valley Board today. This was occasioned by a letter from the Hon. C. E. Macmillan stating that he had noticed that in the proposed conference between the two boards to settle the ques tion llie Tauranga Board was not prepared to pay its half share of the costs toward Mr. McLennan's expenses as intermediary, but was willing to pay half the costs of an outside arbitrator. The department's view was that the supply of electric power to the beach was mainly a question of economics, irrespective of the ownership of the sources of supply, and whether the services of an outside arbitrator were enlisted or not was a matter of indifference to the department provided some finality was reached. The deputy-chairman, Mr. C. A. Arthur, said if the Tauranga Board persistently rpfused the services of Mr. McLennan the Thames Valley Board would prefer a straight-out commission. It was decided to advise the Tauranga Board that the Thames Valley Board was prepared to accept Mr. McLennan's services. The engineer, Mr. N. G. McLeod, was instructed to prcparo estimates for putting the power into the area in dispute.
