Churton (Auckland), with his sisters, Mrs. Ireaale and Miss Churton, has been on a pleasant motor tour through the south-western counties as far as Penzance. This is Mr. Churton s first trip to England. Mr. A. J. Williams and his daughter, Miss Ella Williams (Auckland), are on a pleasure trip. During the past month/ making their headquarters in London, they have been attending numerous functions of special interest, including the Derby, tho military tattoo at Aldershot, the lawn tennis meeting ,at Wimbledon, • and a number of the most notable plays* They have been invited by Miss M. BCarstairs to inspect her speedboats in tha Isle of Wight, and later they will go north to Manchester, Liverpool and Scotland. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hardcastle (Auckland) have had an interesting time m London during June attending most o£ tho season's functions of note. They have left for tho Lake Districted Scotland, and will probably bo away from London until about mid-August. •Mr. Allan H. Talbot (Auckland) spent some months in Canada and the United States, and is now on a holiday visit to England. lie will leave at the end of July, via Suez, and spend some time mi Australia on his way back to Auckland. Dr. and Mrs. J. Aldous Clinch (Auckland) left Auckland by the Aorangi for Sydney, and there joined the Ormonde London, arriving early this month. It » their intention to spend two years in tha Old Country. Dr. Clinch came primarily to visit his mother, who is in her -lsj year, and he had tho good fortune to lwd her very well. . . Mr. A. 11. Hely (Auckland) arrived lit England recentlv in the hope of joining the Royal Air Force. Unfortunately, «• finds that ho has passed the age limit for acceptance. In the meantime, He is ing with his aunt, Mrs. E. McMatn, ai Gerrard's Cross. Mr. Harry Clouston (Wanganui) cania by tho Port Victor, which had a long passage of 57 days from "Wellington. He. is one of the two New Zealand '-'tramps who started from Whangarei last year in an attempt to walk 50,(XX) miles and break the Canadian record of seven years.His companion, Mr. F. Dunford, however.; decided not to carry on. Mr. Cloustoa is thinking of taking the Great riorta Road and making his way through England to Scotland and Ireland. He has been supplied by the New Zealand Government with some slides showing tourist resorts, and he hopes to make some use o these to help him on his way. The results aie announced of the ex am " ination," in written subjects, of J®"* 1 "* with a view to promotion in the Regular Army, Royal Marines, and Dominion Forces, which was held at stations abroad last March. Successful New Inlanders are:—Lieutenants G. H. Heal, Iv. S. Judson, V.C., and E.-R. V. Petrie, all of the New Zealand Staff Corps.
