SEVERITY OF STORM

DAMAGE l BY LIGHTNING RAIN AND HAIL AT SYDNEY SYDNEY, August 1 A severe electrical storm swept the metropolitan area during last night. Lightning disorganised the automatic point controlling gear at North Sydney railway station and caused a temporary interference with light supplies elsewhere. Torrential rain and hail in the eastern and southern suburbs did much minor damage to property. A hailstorm was particularly severo on the south coast. The weight of the accumulated hail caused a garage roof to collapse at Thirroul. Gardens were destroyed at Austinmer, and roads were rendered impassable. Bulii Pass was blocked for a time.
