Mrs. A. E. Ansoll, of Duncdin, who has been visiting Auckland, left yesterday for Hamilton. Miss Diana Speedy, of Palmerston North, is visiting the Misses Stevenson, of Mount Eden. Mrs. A. M. Anderson, of Wellington, is visiting Auckland and is staying at the Grand HoteL Miss Betty Canning, of Hawko's Bay, is visiting Auckland and is staying at Hotel-Cargen. Mrs. D. M. Blackwelder, of Wellington, is visiting Auckland and is staying at Hotel Cargen. Mrs. C. Clifford, who has been visiting Sydney, will return to Auckland by tho Mariposa to-day. Mr?. C. E. Tomlinson, of Sponcer Road, Remuera, returned yesterday from a visit to New Plymouth. Miss Betty Parr, daughter of Sir James and Lady Pan\ will arrive in Auckland from Sydney by'tlie liner Mariposa to-day. Mrs. K. M. Almao, who with her husband has been spending a furlough in Auckland, will return to Suva by tho Mariposa to-day. Mrs. A. C. Collins, Mrs. A. Bewley, Miss R. George and Miss Jean Collins have returned to New Plymouth from a visit to Auckland. Mrs. R. W. Hannah, of Wellington, is visiting Auckland and is at tho Grand Hotel. She will leave for San Francisco by the Mariposa to-day. Mrs. do Meric, wife of Captain M. J. C. do Meric, M.V.0., of H. M. S. Dunedin, will arrive in Wellington on Ihursday by tho Rangitata from England. Mrs. B. Tooley and Miss Iv. E. Murphy, of Hawaii, are in Auckland and are staying at the Grand Hotel. They will leave on their return by the Mariposa to-day. Mrs. H. E. Maude, wife of Mr. Maude, district officer in the Gilbert Islands, arrived in Auckland by the motor-ship Myrtlebank yesterday. Mr. Maude is on three months' furlough. Among the visitors staying at 'the Central Hotel are Mrs. K. C. Abraham, of Palmerston North, Miss A. Blackmore, Wellington; Mrs. M. Hibbert, Wellington; and Miss V. Thompson, of Masterton. Mrs. A. E. Ellis, wife of Mr. A. E. | Ellis, C.M.G.. New Zealand representative on the British Phosphate Commission, returned to Auckland from Ocean Island yesterday by tho motor-ship Myrtlebank. A "most enjoyable dance was held in the Titoki Hall in aid of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, Whangarei. Music was supplied by Mr. Ray Goodison's orchestra. Tho net proceeds amounted to £7 9s 6d." The Kohimarama branch of the W.C.T.U. held a very successful drawing rooin meeting at the residence of Mrs. Hugh Kasper, district president. An excellent address on " Scientific Temperance" was given by Miss A. M. McLay, Dominion organi iser. Mesdames Lewis Eady, Reffel and Phillips provided a musical programme, and Miss L. Read rendered two recitations. i An enjoyable card afternoon was held r by members of the Onehunga Croquet Club last week, at which there was an attendance of nearly 60 members and their " friends. Bridge and five hundred were played, Miss Birch and Mrs. Graham win- » ning the prize for the former and Mrs. ' Crunden for tlio latter. The president, ' Mrs. J. B. Crawford, who received the guests, wore a mole and black ensemble ' and a wine felt hat.

The late Mrs. T. Owen Williams, who passed away on Sunday, was closely identified with "life in tho Thames in the early days and her death will be regretted not only by her old friends there and in Auckland, where she has lived for some years past, but also by members of the Old Thames Girls' Association, of which she was vice-patroness. The late Mrs. Williams married Dr. T. Owen Williams, of tho Thames Hospital, where she was on tho staff as a nurse. Since residing in Auckland she did much helpful work in a quiet way by visiting the sick and helping tho poor. A "hard-up" dance was held in the Brown's Bay Cabaret on Saturday evening in aid of tho travelling soup kitchen. Tho programme consisted of old-time dancing. The parade just before supper was very amusing, being led by Miss Gardham as a "hard-up" barrel-organ grinder, with a dummy monkey on a string, and a collection box, which received many pennies. Miss Gardham received a special prize, presented by Mr. Lovell. Mrs. Henderson and Mr. Ellico won the "hardup" costumo prizes, presented by Mr. Aston. Tho sum of £6 will bo of help to the soup kitchen. Mr. Nyberg thanked his committee for their splendid efforts.
