NEW BRIDGE PLANNED

WORK NEAR HENDERSON ORATIA STREAM STRUCTURE TRAFFIC TO BE DIVERTED The Oratia Stream bridge, on the Auckland-Helensville main highway, near Henderson, will be closed from noon today for a period of about five months. The old bridge will be demolished and a reinforced concrete structure will be erected. During the construction period heavy traffic will be diverted via Grange, View and Station Roads, while lighter vehicles will use View Road. The detour will be about three-quarters of a mile long. The existing steel-truss bridge was built about 1910. Work on the new bridge will be commenced almost immediately. The successful tenderers for the new bridge were Messrs. Wilcox and Company, the price being £2997. The bridge was designed by Mr. R. P. Worley, of Auckland. The existing bridge is situated on the northern end of Henderson township at the foot of the hill below the school, and the detour route turns off the main highway just above the school. Traffic travelling southward will turn off toward the Henderson railway station at a point opposite the post office. The Auckland Automobile Association is arranging for direction signs.
