DRAWN GAME IN SYDNEY METROPOLITAN SIDE PLAYED COUNTRY ELEVEN BEATEN By Telegraph—PreßS Association—Copyright (Received AugUßt 1, 7.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 1 The New Zealand hockey team played its first match in Sydney to-day, when it drew with Metropolitan, each side scoring four goals. The match was played at Rushcutter's Bay in beautiful weather. The visitors' forwards displayed brilliant combination, enabling Turbitt and Rcid to score. Metropolitan then attacked, but excollent defence held tho home team at'bay until nearly halftime, when Metropolitan scored twice rapidly, making tho score 2 all at the interval. Metropolitan forwards showed better stickwork after the interval, but again the New Zealanders* defence was solid. Then both sides scored goals, New Zealand's being a penalty. Wellbourne put New Zealand ahead with a scorching shot from tho edgo of the circle. Not long afterwards Hogg equalised the score. The outstanding New Zealand players were Munro, Joblin, Turbitt and Wellbourne. Tho New Zealanders defeated Tenterfield on Saturday by 14 goals to 1. Tho visitors wero' far too good for their opponents. Turbitt and Anthony shone throughout. Turbitt scored soven goals, Anthony six, and Roberts one. Tho visitors were given a civic welcome in the evening. Tho Mayor, Alderman Petherick, said it was a compliment for the team of a sister Dominion to visit Tenterfield. The manager, Mr. S. G. Holland, suitably acknowledged the welcome and said tho team was receiving the utmost hospitality.
