TEAMS CHAMPIONSHIP RUM TECHNICAL CLUB'S SUCCESS GOOD PERFORMANCE BY COOPER The 1932 teams championship of 10.000 metres was run at Avundale on Saturday under ideal conditions and it provided one of tho finest cross-cour try events seen in Auckland for many years. The course was extremely difficult, particularly on the first lap of about four miles., which was ull up and down going, with obstacles of every possible kind to bo negotiated. The officials of the Lynndale Club, however, had the trail papered and laid in a most efficient manner and they are to be" congratulated on having selected such an excellent course. N. P. Cooper was first to break tha line when the 88 competitors got away to a perfect start, but inside 100 yards he was joined by Readdy and Roberts, the crack Hamilton pair, and Browne, the Lynndale champion. Tho pace was exceptional for the first GOO yards lound the course and then, setting out across country, Browne led the other three, with Barker, Nicholson and Francis following. For another two miles of rough going, Browne still led, but Cooper then took charge, while Readdy dropped back and Briggs moved up to second place. Tho last-named made a great effort to catch Cooper before tho racecourse was reached and he got to within 20 yards of tho leader. Once on the course, however. Cooper lenghtencd his stride and completed the first lap in 23m 50s. Briggs being 30s later, followed by Browne, Nicholson and Barker. Over tho shorter second lap the order remained unchanged, while Cooper increased his lead to eventually win by 250 yards. Briggs ran his finest cross-country race in open company to finish second and defeat Browne, who had beaten him over the eano course the previous Saturday. R. Hazard again ran finely tc finish in sixth position. A popular win v/as scored in the sealed handicap by R. McKenzie, of the Papatoeto® Club, a nuggety little runner, who has aways been noted as a real trier wh»n the going was hardest. The teams championship proved exceptionally close :;nd on the points of the first 10 men of each club to finish. Technical, with 190, was only ahead of University. Detailed results are:— N. F.
