BUILDING IN THE CITY
FIGURES FOR JULY BEST MONTH THIS YEAR Building permits issued by tho Auckland City Council in July reached a total value of £77.351, which was little short of the total for the first six months of the year. Up to the end of June the total value of tho permits issued for 1932 was £82,772, but the amount represented in the July total brings the amount for the seven months to £160,123, which is above that for the first seven months of last year. The figures for ias;t month included tho value of the permit issued for the erection of the nffw cool sloa'e building for tho Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company, near the King's Wharf. If thi3 sum, which is between £60,000 and £70,000 is subtracted, the total for tho month would be about the average for tho year. The permits included one for a double shop and seven for dwellings. Tho permits for dwellings indicate slightly increased activity on the part of builders, the seven permits being greater than for any month since February, when seven were also issued. For the wholo seven months of the present year only 35 permits for dwellings have been issued, the greatest number in any one month having been nine in January. Returns for the first seven months of the year, and of the two preceding years, are as follows: 1932 1931 1930 January . . .. *14,313 £IE>.SS6 £63.165 February .. .. 8,997 34,375 69.746 March .. .. 19,491 16,223 54,270 April .. .. 11,138 22.436 37,896 May 14.5G4 13,038 66,893 Juno . . .. 14 ~269 13,040 124,381 July 77,351 12,823 66.545 £1.60,123 £130,581 £472,902
