ACREAGE IN WHEAT

ESTIMATE FOR 1933 A wheat acrengo of 305,000 ncrcs lias boon sown for the 1933 seuson according to an interim estimate on tho basis of acreages so far reported by growers to the Now Zealand Whcatgrowers' Cooperative Association. In making this announcement, the association points out that many farmers are now considering their. plans for the spring sowing of wheat, and tho knowledge that such a large acreage ia either sown or intended to be sown, will help thorn in deciding how extensive a sowing programme to adopt. If tho harvest should result in an average yield from the acreage now indicated, it would produce a considerable surplus for next season. Even with the wheat-marketing scheme as now operating, and conditions of duty remaining as at present, dealing with such a surplus would reduce the price to growers considerably. Acreages in recent years, and the total and the average yield per acre aro as follows: i Average Yield per acre Acres bushels bushels 1924-25 166,964 5,447,758 32.62 1925-26 151,673 4.617,041 30.44 1926-27 220,083 7,952,442 36.13 1927-28 260,987 - 3,541,444 36.56 1928-29 255,312 8,832,864 34.60 1929-30 235,942 7,239,556 30.68 1930-31 249,014 7,579,153 30.44 1931-32 276,000 5,758,401 25.92
