MISSION BAY
Sir, —While the subject of Mission Bav is under discussion, I beg space to uphold what has been very ably put in two previous letters. It seems to mo that the chief aim of local bodies is to provide relief work to keep the men in town, even though they wreck anything th't is beautiful in the natural state. Beautiful Mount Eden is not safe from depredation, as will be seen. The principal charm about Mission Bay is the open grass space, where the children are free to play in their own way, without the fear of a caretaker to tell them what they must not do. Those who are looking for a stylish promenade need not waste benzine coming to Rohimarama, as they are amply provided for in town. There is a feature of the proposed plan of mutilation which should condemn it at once, and that is, it is to be done by borrowing money at a time when no council or borough should dare to increase its present heavy,,indebtedness. Let those who are in doubt visit Kohimarama on a fine Sunday afternoon and count the cars and the number of parents and children, all thoroughly happy. No additions of garden plots and tarred footpaths could make them any happier. The decorum would probably detract from it. The keynote of people's enjoyment of a visit to Kohimaama is simplicity. If everyone is happy as they are why spend borrowed money to spoil their happiness ? The charm of Mission Bay is its natural simplicity. Leave it at that. » J. A. H. Nash.
