HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST UNSETTLED, WITH SHOWERS Tho following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:—A small secondary depression is moving on to (lie Dominion from the west, while a high barometric pressure system is closely following. Expect cloudy and unsottled weather, with a scattered rainfall, chiefly in coastal areas. Hail and thunder likely in places near the west coast and snow on the southern highlands. Southerly to south-westerly winds, moderate to strong, squally at times. Fairly rough sens on the west coast and in the Bay of Plenty. Local outlook: Unsettled, with occasional heavy showers, then, improving again, and fine, bright weather following. Very cold temperatures. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.05 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnitfht)—Maximum, 54deg.; minimum. 44deg, GOVERNMENT REPORT The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —The recent depression has passed away eastwards and an anti-cyclone is advancing over tho Tasnian Sea, with its centre to tho north. A depression is now moving on to south--eastern Australia. Indications are for moderate to fresh southerly winds north of Vi estport and Kaikoura; elsewhere variable winds, tending westerly and later north-wosterly in and south of Cook Strait. Seas: Considerable southerly swell north of Farewell Spit and Akaroa; otherwise smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate south to west winds and niodcrato seas. Weather: Still some passing showers between East Capo and Kaikoura, but improving and otherwise fair to fine. Cold to-night with many frosts.
