AUTHOR OF "JOHN PEEL"
PROPOSED MEMORIAL A proposal to establish a memorial to John Woodcock Graves, the author of the song " D'ye Ken John Peel," at Cnldbeck, England, was discussed at the annual conference of the Cumberland and Westmoreland Association recently. It was suggested that the cottage at Caldbeck where Graves lived and wrote the song should be purchased and maintained as a permanent memorial, and another suggestion was that a playingfield should be provided. The chairman, Mr. E. E. Scott, said that the matter was a national one and that the raising of £4OO or £SOO should present no difficulty. It had been suggested, ho said, that they should erect a tablet, but tho.ro was a tablet already, and to provide another would not do them much credit. It was agreed to appoint a committee to consider the form of the memorial and report to the next conference.
