LETTERBOX CORNER

Dear girls and boys:

Here we are at the last Saturday of the last real winter month! August often brings bad weather and late frosts, but it also ushers in tho daffodils, primroses, freesias, pussy-willows, and. all the' host of spring flowers that bring beauty and colour to our gardens after the bleak, bare period during which all plant life yvas sleeping. I think you will find plenty to interest yoti in' our page to-day, and I hopo many of you will go in for the little story contest in connection with my Happy Days Snapshots. They were taken some time ago, while we were camping at Piha. Another instalment of the special series by " A.M.1.M.E." will appear nest week, and the title will bo a beautiful one, Tho Magic of Water." The first article is a very interesting one, dealing in a general way with the wonders of water in its different forms. Don't miss this series, boys! And be suro you read " A Little Londoner " to-day, tho first of two articles .written for " Girls and Boys " by an enthusiastic reader over 80 years of ago. When you read of his boyhood, and his start in life as a worker at the age of 10,; you will realise how different those dayS wero from our own, and how happy childhood is made for our boys and girls in 'this kinder, more enlightened age. There are still many wrongs that need righting, but at least we have mado this land a bright and happy ono for the children! Bcol love to you all from
