NORTHCOTE UNEMPLOYED

BLIND INSTITUTE CONCERT Inmates of the Blind Institute provided the entire programme' at a concert held in the King's Theatre at Northcote for the relief of local distress arising from unemployment. The hall lent itself admirably for the performance, and the stage arrangements, under Mr. G. W. Pilgrim, wore carried out most smoothly and satisfactorily. The items were greatly enjoyed by the large audience, which enthusiastically cheered the artists pnd their tutors at the conclusion. The programnto included selections by. the Institute Band, under Bandmaster G. W. 80we.5, and by the Girls' Orchestra, under Mrs. S. Jackson: Braille reading by Miss Rina Bedogni; vocal solos by Miss May Bray, accompanied by Miss L. Martin, L.T.C.L.; recitations by Mr. J. Shortt; cornet solo by Mr. A. Morton; Mr. S. Gordon appeared capable of rendering a whole evening s programme him self. His contributions of humorous sketches, pianoforte solos, Maori songs, and saxophone solos were much appreciated. The dance band's performance of Maori melodies, with dance by Kino, was encored. The chairman, Mr. D. E. La Roche, president of the Northcote Unemployed Association, conveyed the thanks of the Northcoto public for the really excellent entertainment, and for the kindly spirit which inspired the blind in offering their services for the benefit of fellow .members of the community who were suffering hardship. The proceeds were divided between tho Unemployed Association and the Central Relief Committee.
