EVICTIONS IN SYDNEY
GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE LAW TO BE AMENDED Replying to a deputation representing the unemployed of several Sydney suburbs, which asked for an expression of the New South Wales Government's attitude regarding the eviction of tenants who were unable to pay rent, tho Minister of Justice, Mr. Martin, said ho would confer with tho Chief Secretary on tho question of providing relief to such persons to tide them over tho winter. The Government, said Mr. Martin, would not Jet people be thrown into the street. It would be impossible entirely to suspend the law relating to evictions, but the Government proposed to amend tho Moratorium Act to make its operation simpler. Tho Minister added that he would also seo what steps could bo taken to relievo landlords who had suffered by tho inability of tenants to pay rent. He would investigate the possibility of securing the remission of rates and taxes in such cases.
