NELSON CATHEDRAL

LAST OF OLD BUILDING Nelson's old cathedral, which lias done service in its present form sinco 1886, as mother church of tlic diocese, and church of tlio parish of Christ Church, was used for the last time on Sundaylast, when the accommodation was fully taxed by the largo congregations which took part in the final appropriate services in the building—a building steeped in tradition, of many hallowed memories, and close associations with the city and with the lives of so many Nelsonians. Among thoso present at the services woro several who attended tho first service in tlio reconstructed cathedral 46 years ago. Tho demolition of tho old structure was commenced on Monday in order to expedite as much as possible tho removal of the chancel oil to the northern end of the nave of the new cathedral, which will be used for tho first time to-morrow.
