Mrs. Eric Baume, of Sydney, is visiting Auckland.

Mrs. J. C. fowler, of Gisborne, has left for Auckland where she will in future reside.

Miss J. Beagley, of Hamilton, is visiting Auckland and is staying at the Central Hotel.

Mrs. C. S. Rennell and Miss Joan Rennell have, returned to New Plymouth-from a visit to Auckland.

Mrs. J. Robinson, of Canwhari, Hamilton, is visiting Auckland and staying at the Central Hotel.

Mrs. H. J. Vyilson, of Thome's Bay, Takapuna, returned on Tuesday evening from a visit to Opotiki.

Mrs. J. W. Carr, of Wellington, who has been staying with her son, the Rev. Allon Carr, of Papatoetoe, is now the guest of the Rev. T. G. Carr, Grange Road, Mount Eden.

A dance arranged by the Loyal Waimauku Lodge of the M.U.1.0.0.F., in aid of the social fund was held in the Coronation Hall,, Waimaulcu, recently. Oldtime dancing was a feature of the programme and broom and slipper dances proved very popular.

The Whangarei Croquet Clnb held a most successful bridge drive in the Arcadia Tea Rooms, Whangarei. There were 13 tables and the room was decorated with Iceland poppies. At the conclusion of play the prizes for the highest scores were presented by the president, Mrs. L. Baigent, to Mr. and Mrs. J. Walker.

The chairman of the Waitemata County Council, Mr. W. A. Bishop, and Mrs. Bishop were' present at the fourth caTd tournament held under the auspices of the Laingholm Ratepayers and Residents' Progressive League on Saturday evening Mr. Bishop congratulated the league on its work and community spirit, after which he presented the prizes to the winners of tne tournament, Mrs. M. Watson and Mr. Ernest Rendle.

Mrs. Vigens gave a very interesting talk to members of the Arts and Crafts Circle of the Penwomen's Club this week, her subject being "Many months under canvas with palette and brush." The lecture was illustrated by sketches and photographs taken on a trap from Auckland, through the lake district, to Tauranga by caravan, showing how delightfully the trip had been arranged, and the many places visited. There was a large gathering of members and friends and the evening ended with supper and general discussion.

One of the most successful dances of the season was held by the Otahuhu Rugby Football Club on Tuesday evening in the Public Hall, Otahuhu. The floor was thronged with dancers, who enjoyed a well-balanced programme, which was directed by Mr W. E. Apps. The canopy of coloured streamers and the bedecked walls formed an attractive setting. Excellent dance music was provided by Morrow's orchestra from the Click Clack Cabaret. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss A. Cross and Mr. A. Jones. Supper was served to the largo company in the supper room.

The Grey Lynn branch of the Women's Christian. Temperance Union met recently. In the absence of the president, through illness, the Auckland district president, Mrs. Kasper, presided. Miss A. McLay, Dominion organiser for the W.C.T.U., gave an inspiring address, setting forth the high ideals and noble work of this great' temperance organisation. The speaker made reference to her recent visit to the North Auckland unions, where she found the members carrying on their work heroically, often under very great difficulties, due to the inconyenience of country transit. Several enjoyable items were given, including a recitation by Miss Read, a pianoforte solo by Mrs. Jury, and two vocal solos by Miss Etia Beadle. Afternoon tea concluded an interesting meeting.
