EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD TRAMWAYS FOR AUCKLAND The following are extracts from the New Zealand Hekald of July 21, 1882: On Thursday last the City Council received a letter from the St. Heliers Bay Land Association accepting the terms offered by the City Council to lay down tramways in the City of Auckland, lho routes proposed at present are from tho lower end of Queen Street and Custom-houso Street, to and. up Wellesley Street West, up Hobson Street, Pitt Street, Karangahape Road, Totisonby Road, College Hill, Freeman's Bay. Custom-house Street West, to starting point at Queen Street Wharf; also from the junction of Queen Street and Weilesley Street East, up Wellesley Street, Svmonds Street, Khyber Pass Road to Newmarket, along Manukau Road, Parnell Rise, Mechanics' Bay, past the railway station, along Custom-house Street East and Fbrt Street to tho lower end of Queen Street. These are at present the routes agreed upon, but as the boundaries of tho city will soon be extended, no doubt before Jong a very large extension of the tramway system will be decided upon. Jho (Jitv Council offer the company the uso of "the streets for seven years free of rent; the 6econd seven years the company will pay a rent of £2OO per annum; ; and during thfi third period of seven years an annual rent of £3OO will bo payable to the City Council.
