STORMY AT SEA.

SYDNEY STEAMER LATE. DELAY TO THE TAMAROA. Stormy weather delayed the arrival of the Huddart-Parker steamer Zealandia and the Union Company's cargo steamer Kairanga, which reached Aucldand from Sydney and Geclong, respectively, yesterday. \ The Zealandia left Sydney at five on Friday evening and experienced moderate east-south-east winds during tho first 24 hours from port. Afterwards the wind increased to a strong breeze, which readied gale force as the vessel near Capo Maria van Diemen on Monday. The gale was accompanied by very rough head seas, which caused tHe vessel to pitch considerably and to ship heavy spray forward. After the Zealandia rounded tho cape on Monday evening the gale changed to the south-east and blew in severe rain squalls, which made the conditions very wintry. The boisterous weather continued until the vessel reached the shelter of the Hauraki Gulf. "When the Zealandia was between North Capo and Cape Brett early yesterday morning she passed the American liner Mariposa, which left Auckland for Sydney on Monday evening. The Mariposa had the gale behind her, but she was rolling considerably in the heavy seas. Tho Kairanga, which left Geelong on July 9, experienced continuous! south-east winds and rough beam seas in the Tasman Sea. When she reached tho New Zealand coast she met weather similar to that experienced by the Zealandia. The Union Company's steamer Karetu is being delayed by the gale. The vessel was due at Auckland from Nukualofa at six o'clock this morning, but she reports that, owing to the weather, i;he time of her arrival is indefinite. Tho Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Tamaroa was due at Wellington from London a.t daybreak to-day with passengers, mail and cargo, but further wireless advice states that owing to the stormy conditions she will not arrive until to-night or to-morrow morning.
