THEIR EXCELLENCIES.

A sojourn in Auckland by the Governor-General and the Lady Bledisloe, made possible at this period of the year by postponement of the Parliamentary session, came to an end with their departure yesterday for the North. It has been a great pleasure for the Auckland community to have had Their Excellencies in residence for these past weeks. They have shown a deep understanding of the country in its time of difficulty, a wonderful spirit of helpfulness and a wide interest in all its affairs. Not only has the Governor-General proved himself alert to note all that has been happening in the realm of Dominion affairs, he has been ready with suggestions of practical value as well as with expressions of the desire to help. This was particularly exemplified by his proposal for mediation in the coal dispute, and his participation in the gathering which discussed the problem of worklcss youths. The pleasure at having Their Excellencies in residence has been increased to all who have been privileged to come in contact with them by the unvarying kindliness and courtesy to which all sections of the community have been treated. They have not only tried in every way to work for the material well-being of the comrhunity, they have made their influence felt as one of the forces working for its moral and spiritual advancement. The standard set on all occasions has been the highest, in all things consistent with the dignity and prestige of the Crown, so ably represented by the GovernorGeneral. There can only be one opinion, that this visit of Their Excellencies, though it has extended over several weeks, has come to an end all too soon.
