EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD. » >• PARNELL'S WATER SUPPLY. The following arc extracts from the New Zealand Herald of July 20,1832: The borough of Parnell and its_ affairs occupied the House of Representatives for a considerable time last night. Mr. Moss lias before the House a bill repealing section 266 of the Municipal Corporations Act and enabling a council to contract for water supply. In moving the second reading last night he said his object was to give the burgesses two strings to thor bow. „ The bill was opposed by several Auckland members, and Mr. Hurst cited a telegram from Mr. Barton Ireland ask ing him to oppose the bill. After considerable discussion the second reading was agreed to. although the Ministers voted against it. It is likely that the bill will he rendered useless by au agree ment. being made between the borough and the city for a supply of water. \j p arc sure there is no disposition on _tlie part of the city to drive a hard bargain Mr. T. Bracken, M.H.8., has .given notice to move in the House as follows: "For the appointment of a commission ut inquiry iuto the working of the whole "j the railways 6T New Zealand, one-ha of the members of such commission to ,p nominated by the Government and the other half to bo chosen by the railway employees: the duties of the commission to be the settlement of all grievances ann disputes between the Government, and 10 employees, all persons discharged froai tlio service during the past two years lo have the right of appeal to ihe commission an inquiry into their respective cases. Of course, it is impossible that the Government for a moment will entertain such a proposal. <
