PLAYING A LAST ENCORE. While playing a last encore at his concert in Adelaide recently, Josef Szigeti, the world-famous violinist, broke his bow He gazed at the broken bow with a hurt expression on his face for a while, picked up another, pointed out to his accompanist whero he had stopped, and thon finished the item.

In a short epeech to tho audience. Szigeti said that it was his favourite bow. and was 60 yoars old. ( Ho then asked whether thero wus a notary public, or solicitor, in tho audience who could witness his declaration that the bow had broken while he was playing during ft performance. A man in tho audience was able to oblige him. It was thought that tho request was made for the purposos of an insurance claim.
