WHANGAREI RESERVOIR.
SUGGESTIONS FOR REPAIRS. CONSIDERATION OF REPORT. [FROM Oliß OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Tuesday. Owing to leaks developing in one of the four compartments in the Whangarei Borough Council's VVhau reservoir, the borough's consulting engineer, Mr. R. P. Worloy, was recently asked to submit a report. • This report was before the council at its meeting last evening. The reservoir was constructed in 1902 near the borough boundary and was added to in 1924, when its capacity was increased to 1,000,000 gallons. The consulting engineer stated that the newoi portion of the reservoir had been constructed to a very bad design, find its failure was inevitable. To guarantee a permanent job, a new concreto tank should be built insicfe the existing ono, making the new floors and walls homogeneous, and if the Whau reservoir was to be retained this would eventually have to be done. He suggested two schemes for the repairing of the broken end. One was to carry out comprehensive alterations and repairs, and the second was to reduce the capacity of the defective department by ope-third (100.000 gallons) by building a new wall; cutting out altogether the defective end of the compartment. Each scheme was estimated to cost. £2OO The report was referred to the Works Committee of the council to submit a re port to the next meeting of the council. It was decided that the future of the borough's water supply should be con sidered when the report was before the council.
