TRAINING IN DAIRYING.
LINCOLN COLLEGE PROPOSAL. REJECTION BY GOVERNORS. [by telegraph.—press association*.] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. A suggestion that the Canterbury Agricultural College at Lincoln should extend its work in regard to dairying, made at a meeting of the Board of Governors today, was rejected by a substantial majority of members. The Hon. D. Buddo, M.L.C., moved that, as in the present state of the farming industry dairying appears to give the most reliable and steadiest returns where .suitable land is available, a committee be set up to report on the question of extending dairying operations at the college .with a view to giving each student practical training in the working of a dairy farm. The majority of; the members of the board opposed the motion on the ground that dairying could not be a great industry in Canterbury with its l° w rainfall, and, in any case, dairying was a special concern of the Massey College, while Lincoln College was supposed to devote its energies to agriculture. There was a gentlemen's agreement between the two i institutions to this effect.
