WORK FOR YOUNG MEN.
FRUITGROWING PROJECT. - ; FARM AT TE KAUWHATA. A plan to jjive ten young men, who, -J. are at present without positions, employ-, ment on a fruit; farm- in the Te Kauwhata district, has been devised by Mr. W. Gill, an Auckland business man. The property on which it is proposed that the men shall work has been used - for fruit cultivation for a number of years* The land, which is subject to a Govern-i ment mortgage), has been held by a returned soldier, but Mr. Gill lias arranged ' to have it transferred to his small organisation., whose only obligation will be the payment of interest, rates and insurance* amounting to about £l5O annually. Lasi" year the gros3 return from the farm was " £6OO, iso it is anticipated that there will ' be sufficient to meet all expenses. Thft« financing of the scheme will be assisted by the payment of ,a Government subsidy of 10s a weJc for each man over 20 years of age and 5s a week for each youth under 20. Tha married couple who are \ to have charge of the youtlis will receive ' £1 subsidy. Consisting ol 47£ acres, the farm has - been leased for three years, and provision, made for a renewal of the lease for ail - further period of four years if required* . Most of the young men have had previous experience of farm life.
