Mr. N. R. Cleland has been appointed a member of the Taranaki Land Board.

Lieutenant E. M. Mackersy, of the Ist Battalion, Waikato Regiment, has been,promoted to the rank of captain.
Mr. R. If. Jones, Chief Judge of the Native Land Court, is at present in Auckland. He is at the Hotel Stonehurst.,
Mr. J. W. McGochie, who relinquished the position of headmaster of the Birkenhead school on Friday, will take charge of the Parnell school to-day.
Mr. A. Grayson, president of the Anckland Automobile Association, returned on Saturday from Wellington after attend-. - ing a meeting of the North Island Motor Union.
The Rev. P. Wiltshire, for the past fiye years assistant curate at All Saints' Church, Palmerston North, has accepted the charge of the parish of Pongaroa and Mangatainoka.
The Rev. W. A. Sinclair, general secretary of the foroign missions department of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, will, for reasons of health, become a gnpernumerary at the conference to be held in Auckland in 1933.
Mr, J. Stevenson, buttermaker and assistant lecturer at Massey Agricultural College, who has accepted the position of manager of the Katikati Dairy Factory, received presentations last week from the students ami staff of the college.
Mr. H. P. Ward, of Wellington, Mr. W. G. F. Pinkham, of Blenheim, jnemberj of the Post and Telegraph Appeal Board, and Mr. E. A. Munden, secretary to the board, are oxpected to arrive in Auckland this morning. The board will meet to-day.
Mr. Maurice, W. MehalTey, a graduate of tfche Nevr Zealand University in civil engineering, has been appointed director of lighthouses and engineer-in-chief to th« Australian Department of Commerce. Ha is a son of Mrs. W. G. Mchaffey, of Gladstone.
The Rev. J.- K. Archer, of Christchurch, who recently resigned the pastorate of the Colombo Street BaptistChttrch, intends to reside for an indefinite period at Napier, where he officiated for a number of years before going to Christchurch.
Mr. A. F. Duthie, of Dunedin, has been appointed secretary and organiser of tjia Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society, in succession to Mr. E. F. Duthie, whosa resignation was accepted at the annual meeting at the beginning of June. There were 94 applications for the position.
