REBUILDING NAPIER.
ACTIVITIES UNDIMINISHED. TEMPORARY PREMISES TO GO. [DV TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER. Friday. Building operations in Napier continue with undiminished intensity. Many buildings of a value exceeding five figures are at present under construction. Although between 45 and 50 per cent, of the cost involved in each structure is absorbed in labour, there i.s an army of men in the locality waiting to take advantage of any work offering.
Notice has been served on the owners of temporary buildings requiring them to give the reason why such structures should not be demolished. It has been pointed out by tho chief commissioner, Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., that permits issued after tho earthquake on February 3, 1931, for temporary premises were validated for a period of one year only, and the authorities now have no course but to demand demolition.
An example is being set by the municipal authorities in the demolition at an early date of a section of tho temporary community shopping blocks erected m Give Square immediately after tho earthquake.
