TRAMS AT NAPIER.

REQUEST FOR RESTORATION.

Napior has had no tram service sinco the Hawke's Bay earthquake, February 3 of last year, the Commissioner, Mr. J. S. Barton, announcing that, in view of the past loss on the service, and the troubles ahead of the town in rehabilitation, the service would bo suspended. Taxis and buses have provided transport since then, but a move has been made, as a result of a decision of a meeting of Port Ahuriri residents, to ask the Commission to reinstate the tram service. It was remarked that when the Napier tramway and electric lighting accounts were kept together a credit balance was shown. However, after a loan had been carried the two accounts were separated and instead of one paying for the other tho tramway account had sinco lost and tho lighting account paid. As the loan had been raised for both services tho accounts should not have been separated.
