OVERSEAS LEAGUE.

INCREASE IN MEMBERS.

TOTAL NOW OVER 44,000.

LONDON, May 27,

At the annual meeting of the Overseas ILeague, the chairman, Mr. Alec. L. Rea, referred to the fact that, despite the world-wi(?e depression, the membership of thu Overseas League showed a satisfactory increase of 2993 members during the past year. The total membership of the league was now 44,534. . Among the agencies contributing to the greater intereet now being taken in Imperial affairs, said the chairman, the Overseas League undoubtedly played tin honourable part. The chief event in the ps,sb year from the Overseas League standpoint was the coming-of-age banquet hold in the Albert Hall on July 2, when the Prince of Wales was the principal priest, and when over a thousand mernbors from all parts of the world were present.' During* the past year representatives pf the headquarters organisation had /made extensive visits to Canada, the Near East, South Africa and West Africa.

Sir Evelyn Wrench referred to the 6plendid work of the 500 branches and honorary corresponding secretaries of the league in all parts of the world. The income of the league for 1931 was £51,284, compared with £50,302 for the year 1930. During the past year premises ware opened at Toronto and Glasgow, and the' new premises in Princes Street, Edinburgh, had played an important part in strengthening the league's membership in Scotland, which now numbers 2684. Despite the difficulty of migration work, by means of the league's protege scheme 1135 boys have been placed in positions overseas.
