HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST,

SQUALLY AND SHOWERY.

Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:— Tho prolonged westerly depression is now drawing to ti close, an area of intense high barometric pressure, enclosing a fine weather system, having moved on to tho south-west Tasman Sea from Tasmania, and advancing on to New Zealand. Expect unsettled weather, with heavy showers, passing to the east coast. Hail and thunder probable in places near tho west coast, and a considerable fall of snow is likely on the southern highlands. Southerly to south-westerly winds, moderate to strong, increasing to galo attunes, especially in tho south. Rough seas on tho west coast. Local outlook : Squally and showery. Hail is indicated Temperatures will become very cold. Conditions will improve shortly.

Seas rough generally. Eastern Tasman Sea; Strong southerly winds and rough soas, but wind and sea gradually moderating. Weather cold and showery, with snow on tho ranges and also on parts of low country of tho South Island; further hail at places on tho coast; improving soon in western districts of the South Island.
