THE TROTTING CLUB.

FIRST DAY OF MEETING. THE WINTER FASHIONS. Pleasant conditions did not prevail at the Auckland Trotting Club's Winter Meeting at Alexandra Park yesterday, and a s a result the frocking was of the sombre type rather than the spectacular. Black was quilo the favourite colour, many black cloth coats trimmed either with pony skin or with astrakhan being extensively worn, while black suits and ensembles also looked most attractive. The chief note of colour was in the hats, many of which were in varying shades of red and wine, although here again black had its staunch adherents. Among those present were:—Mrs. C. H. who wore a black figured crepe de chine frock under a black Persian lamb coat and a small black felt hat; Mrs. J.

W. Ryan, black sealskin coat and chocolate brown velour hat; Mrs. Norman Brett, leaf brown patterned crepe de chine frock with a black sealskin coat and brown felt hat; Mrs. A. Neilsen, black sealskin coat and blue brocaded hat bordered with black fur; Mrs. P. O'Connor, black suit, with a flank musquash coat and cherry felt hat; Mrs. Norman Burton, brown woollen jumper suit and brown felt hat; Mrs. R. 1. Reid (Hamilton), brown fur coat and caramel brown felt hat trimmed wilh a feather; Mrs. Mark Davis, black sealskin coat and navy blue velour hat; Mrs. Irvine, Burgundy-red cloth coat and red felt hat to match; Mrs. Firth, brown mixed tweed suit with a black sealskin coat and brown felt hat; Mrs. R. Koefoed, brown tweed suit and brown felt to match ; Mrs. Craig, brown coat with a tur collar and brown felt hat relieved with touches of orange; Mrs. F.
