PARTED AFTER MARRIAGE. SEQUEL TO FLEET'S VISIT. WIFE'S PETITION FOR DIVORCE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS A! SOCIviTION.] DUNISDIJT, Thursday. A sequel to the marriage of a girl aged 15 to an American sailor a;;,ec 18 during the visit of the American sHcet to New Zealand in 1925 was heard in the Supreme Court in a divorce petition brought by Irene Patricia Carter again it Leslie Piov | Carter. Special interest attached t > the case because the petitioner was taking advantage of the 1930 Amendment Act, which accords a deserted wife a N;w Zealand domicile if she has lived here three years before the filing of tin petition and intends remaining. Counsel stated that the rispondent had secured from an American Court an annulment decree, but this wa ; a declaration of nullity, not divorce. Therefore, a New Zealand divorce was needed. The parties were married withr ut the knowledge of the girl's parents a| a registry office. They parted at oner, i,ht; husband sailing the next day. Mr. Justice Kennedy ra-ervcil his decision.
