BOXING INCIDENT.

REFEREE'S UNUSUAL MISTAKE Matt Wells, one-time light-weight champion of the world, made an extraordinary mistake when he refereed a figlit at The Ping, London, a few weeks ago. It was a 12-rounds bout between Leo Phillips, of Birmingham, and Fred Chandler, of Kentish Town. N At the close Wells told the announcer that Chandler hid won. As Phillips had looked all over a winner,"the crowd made great uproar. After five minutes of hooting, Wells informed the announcer that ho had found he had made a mistake, as his card clearly showed that the boxer in the comer from which Phillips had come hid practically every round. He had tonfnsad the identities of tha two men.
