GILBERT AND SULLIVAN.

The final performance of . "Dorothy," Alfred Collier's tuneful and picturesque opera, will bo given by the J. 0. Williamson Gilbert and Sullivan Company in His Majesty's Theatre this evening. This evergreen favourite, revived in Auckland after many years, has proved exceedingly popular. To-morrow evening there will lie a presentation of "The Yeomen of the Guard." which is one of the best works of Gilbert and Sullivan. The music of this opera compares favourably with that heard in grand opera and the character of Jack Point is probably the finest role ever created for a comedian ; in comic opera. Mr. Ivan Menzies' conception of Jack Point must be classed with the finest ever given in Auckland of this character and he is particularly effective in» the final scenes, where he is depicted "dying of a broken heart." On the present occasion the part of . Elsie Maynard will bo. sung and acted by Miss Marie Rremner, who was not--in the production when it was originally staged in Auckland by the present company. Mr. John Ralston will appear as Wilfred Shadbolt, which is regarded as his finest characterisation. On Saturday afternoon "The Pirates of Penzance" will be staged and on Saturday night "lolanLhe" will he produced. "Ruddigore," "The Mikado, ' Patience and "'The Gondoliers" will be presented next, week.
