TROUT-FISHING SEASON.

CLOSING DATES NEAR. GOOD AUTUMN SPORT. Til fishing season in tho Auckland acclimatisation district ends on Saturday and anglers who have been working tho streams for the last time have experienced a fine close to an unusually good period of fishing. In the Taupo and Rotorua districts fishermen have the benefit of an extra month, as the date for the finish of the season in those areas is fixed for May 31. Many people have been enjoying* good sport there lately, and good catches have been reported in the Tongaliro River.

Between Arapuni and Horahora anglers have found that sport from the several miles of easily accessible and open water has been woith repeated visits, most of the water being ideal for fly fishing. The sizes of fish vary up to about 81b., and the average caught has been about The recent lowering of the Waikato during tho filling of Arapuni Lake appears to have made fish in this stretch of water more difficult to take.

Arapuni Lake is now heavily stocked with rainbow trout, and it is confidently expected that splendid fishing will be experienced there next season. A number of small streams in the Putaruru district have fished well this year, notably the Wailiou, Oraka, Pokaiwhenua and Littlo Waipa. The Wanganui River has continued to yield good brown trout and rainbow, which have noticeably increased in size and quality in the past two years.

THE ROTORUA DISTRICT. FISH IN GOOD CONDITION. [n\' TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA, Tuesday. Throughout the district the trout taken showed an increase in weight and w<ve all in good condition, stated Mr. A. Kean, conservator, in his fortnightly fishing report for tlie Kotorua district. Fish aie now starting to run into the Oliau channel, where they are in excellent condition. For size and condition the fish taken from Ixotoiti are now definitely on a par with the Taupo fish. Conditions were improved during tlie period at. Lake Tarawera, where sonic good bags were taken.
