WAIHI FIRE BRIGADE.
HONOUR FOR OFFICER.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS' SERVICE

"WAIHI, Monday
Twenty-five years of service in the Waihi Fire Brigade by Superintendent W. E. Roberts were recognised at a large gathering at the week-end, when ho was presented with the gold star of the United Fire Brigades' Association. The decoration was presented by Mr. A. Garrett, a past president of the association and an ex-superintendent of the Thames brigade. Among those present were mayors of neighbouring boroughs and officers' and firemen from all parts of the Auckland Province. Mr. Garrett said the decoration was an acknowledgment that the recipient had done good service not only to his own town .and district, but to the Dominion as a whole. The Waihi brigade had a good name throughout tho country, and he congratulated Superintendent Roberts upon having held officer's rank in it for the past 20 years. On behalf of the men, Deputy-Superin-tendent S. Shergold presented Mr. Eoberts with two armchairs.
Tho following service awards were made to members of the brigade:—Two-vear bars to holders of five-year medals: Firemen F. W. McDermotfc and E. R. Morgan; three-year certificates: Firemen <T. Pennell, A. Zenovich, 11. Zenovich, E. Shergold, H. Shergold and L. Warn.
