MURDER OF A WOMAN.

TWO MEN CONVICTED. LIFE SENTENCE IMPOSED. The trial was concluded in Brisbane on April 18, before Mr. Justice Henchman, of Frederick Lewis, aged 24, shop proprietor, and John Wilson, aged 21, labourer, who were charged with having murdered Lilian Maud Stephens. Mrs. Stephens was shot during a struggle in her home in which two robbers succeeded in snatching a bag of money from her husband.

His Honor said that one of the jurymen had injured his arm in an accident that morning. On the application oT counsel for the defence, and with the consent of tho Crown Prosecutor, Ilis Honor directed that the trial should proceed before 11 jurors. After a retirement of three hours and a-half tho jury returned a verdict that Lewis and Wilson wcro each guilty of murder. Ilis Honor sentenced each man to imprisonment with hard labour for life.
