VOLUNTEER FORCES.
MOUNTED RIFLES TRAINING. PROGRESS OF RECRUITING. A bivouac of tho North Auckland Mounted Rifles will be commenced to-day, tho headquarters, machine gun squadron and "A" sqmdron going inio camp at Whangarei, an:l the squadron from further north at Waimate North. Jt is expected that about 220 men will undergo training. Lieut.-Colonel K. B. Tennent will bo in command at Whangarei and Major Atkinson at Waimate North. On Thursday both portions of the regiment, will trekto Towai as advance guards of opposing forces, and when contact is established, will engage ii a mock battle. The manoeuvres will he watched by MajorGeneral W. J.. 11. Sinclair Burgess, general officer commanding the forces, and Colonel J. E Duigan, Northern Command.
Training of the territorial units in the. city, which was suspended during the recent disturbances, will be resumed this evening. Recniting for the service continues, the stiength of all forces in Auckland last month having bepn augmented by 65 recruits There are vacancies in all the technical units, as well as in the infantry battalions
