A tragedy occurred on the Waitara Bar last Wednesday when the fishing launch Swan wa» overwhelmed by heavy seas, presumably an a result of an engine stoppage while negotiating the bar. Both occupants, Mr. Alfred Allen, of Waitara, and Captain R. S. Halcrow, master of the auxiliary ketch Kapuj, were drowned. This photograph shows the launch washed ashore.
